The HOTEL

Visit Spier for fabulous food, wine, and the tranquility of the nature. Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, with a recorded history dating back to 1692. While they are rooted in in this heritage, they offer a contemporary experience and have a vibrant and conscious culture. Village style buildings, lush green lawns and spacious rooms situated next to the calming Eerste River are the defining characteristics of the Spier Hotel. The rooms are clustered around six private courtyards, each with its own swimming pool. Gardens and walkways connect the rooms with the reception area, lounge, bar, terrace and restaurant. The décor features a sophisticated, vibrant style with a collection of art that explores contemporary South African culture. The hotel is passionate about art and has an art program in place and a variety of wines, the Creative Block are a tribute to the art. Lounge on the lawns on the banks of the Eerste Rivier with a picnic, or visit the innovative farm-to-table restaurant, Eight. Spend some time at Moyo or simply take time out for some treatments at the Spier Spa.

 


The FOOD

IN addition to their healthy vineyards, Spier has extensive tracts of land where they farm using biodynamic principles. Animals, including cattle, sheep and chickens are raised on pastures, and contribute to the fertility of the soil. They have an organic vegetable garden with a broad variety of crops. The ethically produced seasonal meat and vegetables are used in their farm-to-table eating experiences at the restaurant, Eight and Eight to Go in preparation of wholesome dishes and picnics. Taste Spiers award winning wines paired with delectable treats.

 


The WINES

Spier has been growing grapes and making wine since the early 1700s. More recently, their wines have won numerous awards, both locally and internationally. They are made under the skillful guidance of celebrated Cellar Master, Frans Smit. He’s a member of the Cape Wine-makers guild – a group of the top winemakers in the country – he is passionate about South Africa’s heritage varietals, Chenin Blanc and Pinotage.
