Travelling from Windhoek to a place call NamibGrens Guest Farm in the South of Namibia about 180km from Windhoek. With no idea what to expect I was open to be surprised....and pleasantly surprised I was.
Firstly I have to mention that it is gravel road for most of the way and it is definitely not advisable to travel at night as you will encounter anything from cows to Kudu's or Jackals on the road and it is just much safer to travel during the day. In certain areas we were not able to drive faster than 30km/h with the condition of the road - so work that into your travel time.
NamibGrens Guest Farm is about 8000 hectare and has game like kudu, springbok and zebra. They also farm with goats, nguni cattle and sheep, so on arrival you get greeted with real farm life and you know you left the city behind. They have fantastic hiking trails, hair raising 4X4 trails and stunning mountain biking trails, so there is definitely something for the entire family.
As we arrived in the dark, the real magic for me was when I woke up at 05H30 with a view that took my breath away. First it was the skyline and as the sun rose higher in the sky you could see the other villas and the massive boulders surrounding you. I always thought the south of Namibia is dry and desolate with not a living creature in sight, so imagine my surprise when the world around me starting buzzing with life as the sun came up and the ground started warming up.
