Essential Botswana

4 Nights
Arrive and depart Maun Airport
Day 01

Arrival Maun Airport and fly to Xakanaxa Camp. Transfer by light aircraft from Maun Airport to Xakanaxa Camp.

Day 01 - Day 03

Spend two nights at Xakanaxa Camp in a standard tent with en-suite facilities on a full board basis, including scheduled game viewing, local brand drinks, park fees and laundry.

Set in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, which is rated as being one of the finest game viewing areas in Africa, Xakanaxa Camp has one of the best locations in Botswana. Accommodation is in twelve tastefully furnished tents with twin or double beds and en-suite facilities with shower, hand basin and w.c. The tents are situated on the edge of the lagoon and from their private viewing deck, with comfortable loungers, one looks onto the reeded fringes at the waters edge. The camp, with its eclectic mix of furnishings from all over Africa, has a dining room, lounge/bar area, fire deck and plunge pool all slightly raised on wooden platforms with spectacular views over the lagoon. The reception area boasts a curio shop. At night the camp looks stunning as it is lit by dozens of paraffin lamps and candles. The game drives in this sector of Moremi take one down winding tracks, through Mopane forests and across lush grasslands. The waterways are either forded by vehicles or crossed on rustic log bridges. The camp faces out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Khwai River, where combined boat and mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips explore the sinuous channels and floodplains of the Delta, one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders. Birding in the area is excellent, especially in the spring and summer months when the migrants are breeding. To the north are the world famous heronries, which attract large numbers of breeding storks and herons.

Day 03

Boat transfer from Xakanaxa Camp to Kwara Camp. This transfer takes approximately 2 hours.

Day 03 - Day 05

Spend two nights at Kwara Camp in a standard tent on a full board basis, including all scheduled game viewing activities, local brand drinks and laundry.

Kwara Camp is located in the remote northern reaches of the stunning Okavango Delta within the Kwara concession. The camp fronts onto a huge floodplain, adjacent to the permanent water of the Delta. It is a magnificent wilderness area in excess of 1,700² km, bordering the Moremi Reserve. The camp consists of eight traditional safari tents set on raised decks, within a grove of huge and ancient African Ebony and mangosteen trees. Each tent has a small viewing deck and en-suite facilities which consists of a hot and cold running shower, flush toilet and his/her vanity unit. Lighting is by solar power. The main guest area is constructed out of thatch, reed and canvas and looks out onto a lagoon which is home to a variety of buck, hippo, crocodiles and water birds. There is a lounge, bar, dining area, small shop, fire pit and plunge pool. The Kwara concession encompasses a diversity of habitats, ranging from the clear Delta waters with reed-lined lagoons and channels, to wide open grasslands, Mopane woodlands and palm-fringed islands. Due to the presence of permanent water Kwara is one of the few Okavango Delta camps that can offer year round powerboat and mokoro excursions (during low water the mokoro excursions can be restricted). These water experiences combined with the ability to drive both off road and at night make Kwara a unique camp. Guests may also enjoy spinner fishing for bream, catfish, tigerfish and pike and exploring treed islands on foot in the company of an armed guide and poler. A visit to Godikwe Lagoon is a fascinating activity especially during the breeding season which is between September & December Here one will see thousands of birds and their young in their nesting grounds. The concession is home to a variety of animals including, lechwe, reedbuck, bushbuck, hippo, crocodiles, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and tsessebe. Lion, hyena, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are abundant in this part of the Delta and are regularly seen. Kwara is an intimate camp which is run by a great team of enthusiastic and friendly staff. Here the emphasis is on the wildlife experience rather than on luxury and sophistication.
